Theatre professor Nicky Abbondanza is directing a Sherlock Holmes musical in a professional summer stock production at Treemeadow College, co-starring his husband and theatre professor colleague Noah Oliver as Dr. John Watson. Once again Nicky and Noah will need to use their drama skills to figure out who is lowering the street lamps on the actors before the handsome couple get half-baked on Baker Street. Praise for Drama Detective, the 5th Nicky and Noah mystery:

Drama Detective (Nicky and Noah Mystery #5) by Joe Cosentino is high camp, warmed-hearted, murderous fun! A series that, like Nicky and Noah themselves, keeps getting better with each story as they adjust to each other, grow, and yes, continue to love, act, and investigate murders now as a family. I think this is the best yet! I can’t recommend the series and this story enough! Be prepared to want to cuddle a character or two as well as laugh out loud!” –Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words

“This series is superbly twisted, full of murder and mayhem, and so many laugh out loud moments…Each Nicky and Noah Mystery Series book has a wonderfully twisted plot steeped in farce and absurdist humour. The murder ‘weapons’ are always highly original as is the motive and identity of the murderer…One thing I can guarantee; you will not put this book down until you finish, unless it’s to recover from one of the many belly laughs you’ll engage in while reading. Another winner from this gifted author which I have no hesitation in highly recommending.” —Divine Magazine

“In the fifth volume of the delightful, award-winning Nicky and Noah mystery series from author Joe Cosentino, Drama Detective, Treemeadow College theater professors Nicky Abbondanza and Noah Oliver find themselves embroiled in yet another murderer’s killing spree at the one place you would think they would be safe: A stage….As narrator, Nicky’s trademark wit, catty commentary and mocking metaphors are laugh-out-loud funny…like the previous four entries in this delectable series, the author leaves us breathlessly anticipating what’s next in store for Nicky and Noah.” –Edge Media Network

Blog Post: Finding Giorgio by Joe Cosentino (Excerpt +Giveaway)

Interview with Jamison Radames, a leading character in Finding Giorgio,

Found At Last series book one, by Joe Cosentino, published by Dreamspinner Press

Jamison, thank you for speaking with us on the release of your story, Finding Giorgio.

My pleasure. It feels great to get out of the book and stretch my spine (no pun intended).

The novella is quite cinematic. Who do you see playing you in a film version?

Ezra Miller. Come on movie producers, make Joe an offer!

Since the readers can’t see you, tell them what you look like.

Coming from a Swedish and Egyptian heritage, I’m twenty-seven, tall, very muscular thanks to my gym, with what Theo calls enticing crystal blue eyes, a smooth peaches and cream complexion, a strong nose, and thick jet-black hair. I believe in karma, meaning however you treat others, they’ll treat you.

And Theo?

Theo is twenty-five, tall, with sexy dark hair and eyes, and a hunky build. His first name means godlike, and his last name, Stratis, means good soldier. Theo is both those things. Theo cares about others deeply, yearns for fairness and justice, and loves with all his heart.

How is your story in Finding Giorgio different from Joe Cosentino’s other MM romance novellas?

Joe’s An Infatuation and A Shooting Star are loosely based on his high school and college years respectively. His Bobby and Paolo Holiday Stories chronicle distant cousins who meet in Capri, Italy, fall in love, marry, and adopt a son. And Joe’s Tales from Fairyland are comic gay takes on his favorite fairytales. Finding Giorgio is a story about lovers separated at eighteen years old with the hope of reuniting in their last years—at last.

And you and Theo help them to do it.

Right. I meet Theo and the two of us embark on an incredible journey.

And you also fall in love.

Which is the best part of our adventure.

WRITING THE NICKY AND NOAH MYSTERIES

Book Nine: Drama Faerie

by Joe Cosentino

Don’t you love a good faerie story? Obviously Shakespeare did when he (or the openly gay Christopher Marlowe) wrote my favorite play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Who can go wrong with a rollicking romantic comedy featuring the King of the Faeries, the Queen of the Faeries, and their perfect Bottom? Years ago I performed in the play, which also featured a then young actor Bruce Willis. Bruce, I, and the entire cast had the time of our lives asking, “What fools these mortals be?” As my mother never lets me forget, while Bruce moved on to movie stardom, I did not. However, after I acted in television movies, soaps, and commercials, I became a college theatre professor/department chair. I also created the popular Nicky and Noah mystery series.

So, when it came time to write the ninth Nicky and Noah mystery novel, I couldn’t resist having a Globe Theatre replica built at Treemeadow College for an all-male (as in Elizabethan days) production of my favorite Shakespeare play. Did I mention it’s a musical version of the show called, It Takes a Fairy for Love in the End? Of course Nicky directs and co-stars (as Oberon, the Faerie King) opposite his husband Noah (as Titania, the Queen of the Faeries), son Taavi (Oberon’s mischievous servant Puck), and best friend and department head Martin (Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazon). Since it is Treemeadow College after all, there are lots of comical hijinks, particularly among the theatre students cast in the show—with their muscles rippling out of their tunics, and bulges expanding their tights. Gender role reversals and comical musical numbers add to the hilarity. Oh, and of course there are more murders than (as Nicky would say) anti-gay politicians in the back room of a gay bar during a blackout. Once again Nicky and Noah use their theatrical skills to trap the murderer in a shocking climax—no pun intended.

For those of you who haven’t yet ventured to the land of Nicky and Noah (and you should!), it’s a gay cozy mystery comedy series, meaning the setting is warm and cozy, the clues and murders (and laughs) come fast and furious, and there are enough plot twists and turns and a surprise ending to keep the pages turning (as Nicky would say) faster than a priest facing an altar boy with a robe malfunction. At the center is the touching relationship between Professor of Play Directing Nicky Abbondanza and Associate Professor of Acting Noah Oliver. We watch them go from courting to marrying to adopting a child, all the while head over heels in love with each other (as we fall in love with them). Reviewers called the series “hysterically funny farce,” “Murder She Wrote meets Hart to Hart meets The Hardy Boys,” and “captivating whodunits.” One reviewer wrote they are the funniest books she’s ever read! Another said I’m “a master storyteller.” Who am I to argue? Continue reading “Blog Tour ~ Drama Faerie (the 9th Nicky and Noah mystery) by Joe Cosentino (Guest Post + Giveaway)”

Guest Post: Q&A with Joe Cosentino, author of Drama Dance (Nicky and Noah Mystery #8) (Giveaway)

Q&A with Joe Cosentino, author of Drama Dance the eighth Nicky and Noah Mystery.

The novels in the series have been called “laugh out loud funny,” “sexy shenanigans,” “brilliant brain teasers,” “sweet romances,” and “a combination of Murder She Wrote, The Hardy Boys, Hart to Hart, and a British farce.” How do you think up these page-turners?

I acted professionally, and I’m currently a college theatre professor/department head. There’s no other place with more humor, mystery, and romance than a college campus. Everyone and everything around me are fodder for my overactive imagination. My colleagues say that if they annoy me, I’ll kill them in my next book. They may be right!

Which brings us to your current release, Drama Dance, the eighth Nicky and Noah mystery. Tell us about it.

In Drama Dance, handsome Associate Professor of Directing Nicky Abbondanza directs The Nutcracker ballet at Treemeadow College. Muscular dance students and faculty with bountiful dance belts cause more things to rise than the Christmas tree. When cast members drop faster than Christmas balls, Nicky and his adorable hubby and colleague Noah once again use their drama skills, including impersonating other people, to figure out who is trying to crack the Nutcracker’s nuts, trap the Mouse King, and be cavalier with the Cavalier before Nicky and Noah end up in the Christmas pudding.

Do the leading characters take on the roles in the ballet?

I couldn’t resist having Nicky co-star as the Mouse King opposite Noah as the Cavalier, their son Taavi as Fritz, and their best friend and department head Martin as Drosselmeyer. Since it is Treemeadow College after all, there are lots of cracked nuts as characters, and the yule tide is definitely gay. Oh, and of course there are more murders than closet gay politicians hidden in the stalls of public men’s rooms (as Nicky would say).

Can you give us a run down on some of the other characters?

Old beloved cast members are back, including Nicky’s best friends the comically cantankerous Martin and Ruben, Martin’s sassy office assistant Shayla, and Nicky and Noah’s both sets of riotous parents. New characters include Thomas Bighorn, the muscular and gorgeous student cast as the Nutcracker. Everyone at the college wants to be in his Christmas stocking. Thomas’ understudy and ex, Piero Lamas, is just as hunky and makes everyone’s bells jingle. Only Piero’s sister, Caterina (Clara), knows Piero’s secret, and he knows hers. Liz Canton (Clara’s understudy) is an abstinence-before-marriage advocate with more than holiday gifts hiding in her closet. The dance faculty members playing the other roles, and Otto Dietrich the choreographer with a secret past, have just as many hidden roasted chestnuts in their drawers.

Who was your favorite new character to write in Drama Dance?

Nate Owen, the student stage managing the ballet, was a riot to write. He’s based on a few of my students who never stop talking yet are incredibly sweet and caring. His crush on Piero Lamas (the Nutcracker understudy) is adorable.

Which new character do you like the least in book eight?

I started out not liking Liz Canton (Clara), a student on an abstinence-only sex education mission. However, I had a great deal of fun with her, and Liz certainly gets a big surprise by the end of the novel.
