OVERALL SERIES DESCRIPTION

Love isn’t always responsible

The Responsible Adult series follows ex-juvenile delinquent Micky O’Neill as he attempts to better his life to bring up his disabled little brother. A past full of juvenile delinquency and living in a small town rife with idle gossip means Micky struggles to be seen as anything other than a no-hoper from the wrong side of the tracks… until he takes a job at the local supermarket and meets his boss, Dan, a university graduate and self-proclaimed shy, awkward bookworm.

Dan, older and burned from a past relationship, is the one person who sees through Micky’s tough-guy facade to the true heart underneath. With fear and mistrust on both sides, the two must steer their way through a complicated relationship where outside forces are determined to break them up at every turn.

Responsible Adult is a series about growing up and learning that love always brings responsibility.

“Amazingly gritty and raw, it flays you.” Pride Publishing Editor’s Choice 2017

Author note: Potential triggers include references to suicide, physical assault on a minor, criminal behaviour and bullying of a disabled child.

This is a serial, with book one ending on a cliffhanger, and should be read in order.

Life isn’t always responsible

Blurb

After his mother tragically dies and his deadbeat father goes off the rails, nineteen-year-old Micky is left to care for his disabled little brother. Juggling college, a dead-end job and Flynn’s special needs means Micky has to put his bad-boy past behind him and be the responsible adult to keep his brother out of care. He doesn’t have time for anything else in his life.

Still scarred from a past relationship that went bad, Dan’s not looking to complicate his life. Everything tells him he should stay away from Micky but he’s powerless in the face of his overwhelming attraction to his newest staff member. Especially when he begins to peel off Micky’s layers to reveal the true man beneath the façade.

As their attraction builds, revealing more of themselves to one another, each is faced with a stark question: Can Micky allow himself to follow his heart, and can Dan risk falling in love with someone so tempestuous?

True Mate by Patricia Logan

Prosper Woods Chronicles, Book 1

When I moved to Prosper Woods, California a couple of weeks ago, I’d had big plans for a quiet life. Let’s just say, things haven’t exactly turned out the way I expected they would. For one thing, as new sheriff, I hadn’t planned on investigating a murder the day after my arrival. For another thing, no one told me supernatural creatures existed. I didn’t believe it at first, but when Vincent Lasco suddenly smiled at me with a mouth full of fangs, things got interesting.

Quiet small town life indeed!

The moment I decided to take Sheriff Romeo Harmon home for a roll in the sheets, I knew hiding my true nature was a huge mistake. Then again, things never turn out the way I expect. The simple life of anonymity I’d hoped to have in Prosper Woods has blown up in my face in the most poetic and spectacular way. Not only that, the guy isn’t even aware that he has secrets of his own. How a guy could have lived all his life not knowing what he was, seems nearly impossible but in his case, I know it’s true.

Supernaturals are everywhere!

The town of Prosper Woods has a couple of new residents who at first glance, seem very unsuited for small town life. Before long, though, I realized they were right for the town… probably the only right thing about this weird place. Surprisingly, they fit right in.

Things are about to get interesting!

For Him, Book 1

Wilder,
When I left that night, I had every intention of coming back to you. To us. But no matter how hard I wish for what I want, there are some things in life that aren’t meant to be. I don’t expect you to understand. You’ve already moved on, living your life. But mine ended that night, nine years ago, and I still can’t let you go. Not sure I ever will. I regret so many things, but hurting you, I’ll never forgive myself. I’m sorry for… everything.

Jax~

Jax,
If only you could’ve seen it like I did, the way you were when you thought the world wasn’t watching. How you’d change when I looked at you, when it was just us.
But most of all… I wish you could’ve seen how much it hurt me when you disappeared. Regrets are for cowards. It has always been my belief you should chase after the things you want with actions, not words. There is no such thing as never meant to be.
So this apology… not accepted…

True Knight Cover

Prequel to the Prosper Woods Chronicles

My name is Romeo Harmon and I’m the new sheriff of Prosper Woods, a small California town smack dab in the middle of the sequoia forest. People around here tell me the town hasn’t changed a whole hell of a lot since power lines and telephones were installed. It’s a quaint place with a movie theater that shows the old classics, a saloon with a decent choice of beer, a general store with a grumpy old coot behind the till, a gas station with a pimply young mechanic, and a bed and breakfast that attracts tourists and vacation money.

I think I’m gonna like it here.

My name is Vincent Lasco. I’ve searched a long time to find a new place to settle down. Because of what I am, I need to pull up stakes and start over every twenty years or so—before people realize that I don’t age anymore. Prosper Woods has everything a man like me could ever want. Though there aren’t many humans, it doesn’t really matter. I’m so old, I don’t need to eat very often and there’s no reason to expose myself to the locals whom I hope to call friends some day.

I think I’m gonna like it here.

There’s newcomers in town. Prosper Woods is a nice place as long as you’re passing through. I wonder how long these folks will stay once they find out what’s really going on here. Somehow…

I don’t think they’re gonna like it here.

Declan-

Everything is finally going well. I have a new band, a new label, and a debut album coming out. And then my drummer breaks his wrists. Just my luck. I need a quick replacement to record one more song, but my options are limited, and of course, the obvious candidate hates my guts. Okay, so I may have given him a few reasons over the years, but isn’t there an expiration date on holding a grudge?

Tegan-

I don’t trust Declan McNamara. Sure, he’s talented, smart, and has more sex appeal than any one person should be allowed. And yeah, he may be a rock star in the making, but beware—he’s trouble. However, our new record label’s survival may depend on a truce and extreme measures…of the fake boyfriend variety. If it’s our best shot at the big time, I’m willing to set the past aside and start over…here and now.

They did it all for the glory of love.

Blurb

In October of 2017 cocky, alpha-male Irishman, Colin Campbell, sergeant in charge of the special assault unit of the University of Virginia Campus Police Force, dove in front of a bullet meant for a University of Virginia student. The bullet shattered his thigh and severed his femoral artery, a wound which nearly took Colin’s life and left him temporarily disabled. His infirmities robbed him of the strength and athletic prowess which had been his for most of his life leaving him humiliated and bereft.

His partner, Joshua Abrams, a doctor of psychology at the Rainier Clinic in Charlottesville, never once left his injured lover’s side. He poured every ounce of strength and love he possessed into healing the magical Irishman whom he adored and was overwhelmed with relief and gratitude when Colin was taken off the critical list. Thinking that they had survived their trial, he took Colin home, believing that their happiness was now assured.

But like many injured police officers, Colin subsequently withdrew from his partner. Overwhelmed by feelings of shame and embarrassment, he devoted himself almost obsessively to the physical therapy with which he hoped to rebuild his strength and reclaim the life he had lost. Unable to share his pain and feelings of inadequacy, he shut Joshua out, leaving him to cope alone with the post-traumatic stress he suffered as a result of Colin’s shooting.

In the following months Colin and Joshua fought to keep their relationship alive. Although deeply in love, they felt powerless to cope with the after-effects of Colin’s injuries both to his body and to his pride as a man, and to heal the emotionally devastating PTSD with which Joshua suffered.

Love’s Glory tells the story of this painful and challenging time in Colin and Joshua’s life. As we join them now, Colin is still walking with a cane and still suffering the physical after effects of his injuries. But he and Joshua are both in therapy and are now dealing positively with the emotional and psychological damage they both endured.

They face their future side by side, determined to stand or fall together, as soul mates and lovers. This book follows them on their journey as they move toward the happy future they both long to share. They have moments of anxiety and intense emotion, but you can count on a happy ending. In fact, you can count on a happy listen. In this book, Colin and his beloved Joshua have left their trials behind and now revel in Love’s Glory.

This book contains mature content including explicit sexual relations between Colin and Joshua.

Love’s Magic (Book 1)

Overall: 4 Stars
Narrator: 5 Stars
Story: 4 Stars

Narrator: Walker Williams
Trope: Hurt/Comfort
Heat Level: 3/5

Trigger warning: This story revolves around a case of attempted rape and attack on a helpful bystander and discusses other cases of rape, suicide, and attackers not getting justice.

This is the story of two couples, linked together by a crime committed on campus. While it does have a heavy focus on their individual relationships, it also focuses on one of the main character’s attack after coming to the rescue of a female student who was being attacked. It is a story full of angst, love, hope, disappointments, and a fight for what’s right.

When Nate was attacked, David was beside himself. He loved Nate, and doesn’t want to live without him. When Nate recovers, they soon realize they stand on opposite sides of how they believe Nate should go forward with his protests against the college board’s decision. It is the theme for the rest of the book. They have to navigate together, and decide what is right for them, and their relationship.

Colin is the campus policeman who interviews Nate and the girl who was also attacked. He focuses on cases of assault, as they hold a deeper meaning to something he’s kept to himself for so long. His work brings him in contact with Joshua, who works for Title IX. There’s an instant pull felt by both, but it’s ignored for a while. Once it can’t be ignored, they discover they stand on opposite sides of the relationship scale. This is their story of navigating their feelings for each other, and deciding if it’s worth fighting for.

This story is emotional, but not extremely heavy. It is well written, and the characters are easy to like. Being the first in a series, I believe it sets the stage perfectly for us to follow Colin and Josh’s relationship as they deal with what’s to come.

Walker Williams does a fantastic job bringing this book to life. It’s not hard to recognize which character is speaking, as he does s great job differentiating their voices.

Love’s Trials (Book 2)

Overall 4 Stars
Narrator 5 Stars
Story 4 stars

Narrator: Walker Williams
Trope: Hurt/Comfort

This time it’s not a sexual assault, it’s drugs and how they affect colleges, such as the one that Colin works on. While not as sensitive of a topic as the last book, it is still a very serious issue. In fact, Colin is shot on the job, while protecting a student from a drug lord.Although we see Nate and David in this book, the story primarily focuses on Joshua and Colin. We watch their relationship strengthen and grow under daily events, then struggle with the aftermath of Colin’s shooting.

We all know Colin is stubborn, so seeing his pride take a MAJOR hit at how vulnerable he is now that he’s dependent on others to help him do even basic things, is not a surprise. However, seeing how Joshua stood up for himself in the last book, I was a little surprised he caved so many times. That said, he was affected by the shooting, as well. It was hard to see then struggle so much.

This is the second book in the series, and should be listened to in order. I found this book to be more emotionally challenging this time. I’m not entirely sure why, but it was, for me anyway. It was good to spend more time with these men, even under these circumstances.

Walker Williams did another great job bringing this story to life. He did a great job capturing the many emotions of the characters.

Love’s Glory (Book 3)

Overall 4 stars
Narrator 5 stars
Story 4 stars

Narrator: Walker Williams
Trope: much needed/deserved HEA

FINALLY our lovely men get to the part of their story where the drama and angst are low. I’m thrilled because my heart has been through the wringer with these guys. My emotions needed a reprieve.

This story picks up where we left them, in Love’s Trials. Colin is still stubborn, and not happy about his recovery or working the desk. He’s really trying to come to terms with everything and doing so much better than he was in the last book. He’s now applied to law school, and we find our favorite couple getting married! We also follow them to Ireland, as they have their honeymoon. While there, Colin finally begins to really come to terms with his sister’s suicide. Joshua is by his side, 100%.

I have enjoyed my time with these beautiful men. The writing throughout the series was consistent, as were the characters. I felt their characters remained true to how they were first written to now. Which is always my preference. There’s nothing more disappointing than a major shift in a character’s behavior or mannerism that’s unexplainable.

Walker Williams was the perfect choice to bring this series to life. I’ve enjoyed listening to him give a voice to each character. He really brought the story home.

About the Author

My name is Janice Jarrell. I am a retired grandmother who lives in Seattle, WA. I have two children and three grandsons. I’ve been writing gay romance since I was twelve years old, only back then it wasn’t called ‘gay romance’. In fact, it had no name at all. It was the fifty’s, and it was worth your life to admit to being gay, let alone confess to being a girl who constantly fantasized about relationships between gay men. Hell, I didn’t even know what a homosexual was. I lived on a farm out in the sticks in a tiny Michigan village and I’d never, to my knowledge, even heard the word. I just knew I loved the thought of boy on boy romance. I just knew that there was something hot going on between Tom Corbett and his Space Cadets and all those guys on ‘Combat’.

I wrote slash fanfiction for 30 years, writing over 337 stories, some as short as 100 words (a drabble) some as long as a series which was over 119,012 words. I enjoy writing my stories. I enjoyed the feedback I received from my readers. It was a creative release I’d been searching for my entire life and I blessed the Internet for leading me to this artistic oasis for my spirit.

Love’s Magic was my very first step into writing my own characters. I will always be grateful the slash fanfiction community for nurturing the budding author until she was ready to blossom into a fully realized novelist. It’s been an amazing thing to watch the gay community’s growth over these past twenty years. My own journey has echoed theirs in many ways, and I’m grateful to all those gay activists who fought to give the gay community the rights and privileges they always deserved.

My second contemporary gay romance novel, Love’s Trials followed Colin and Joshua on their journey as men and as a couple. The readers who fell in love with them in Love’s Magic were thrilled to see their romance continue to grow and blossom, but were forced to watch our beloved boys go through some pretty traumatic trials in this book, trials which nearly shattered their relationship. But their love proved stronger than any troubles in the end and they now move forward into the happiness they know they deserve.

In Love’s Glory, Colin and Joshua bask in the happiness that eluded them in Love’s Trials. If you’re looking for a book filled with anger, fear, and anxiety… look elsewhere. Love’s Glory is about just that… the glory of love and the continued growth of these two extraordinary men and the amazing friends who are a large part of their lives.

I’m also grateful to the gay romance community, readers, authors, publishers and promoters, who are making these, my retirement years, the most creative ones of my life. When I’m not writing, I’m traveling, walking, hiking, knitting, crocheting, and weaving, and enjoying my life here in the heart of the Pacific Northwest.

Everyone has secrets, and Rachel Holloway is no exception. She’s worked hard to keep the past where it belongs: dead and buried. And so far, she’s been very successful. But now the small newspaper where she works wants to produce a podcast on a cold case: the disappearance 12 years ago of young Molly Forster.

Some secrets should never see the light of day, and, as far as Rachel is concerned, whatever happened to little Molly is one of them. Rachel has a life now – a boyfriend she loves and a three-year-old daughter she adores – and she will do anything to protect them. But to do that, no one can ever know that she is Molly Forster.
