Ms. Johnson knows how to write a pure love story filled with so many layers. This book resonated with so much emotion I was frequently moved to tears. There is no fluff or made-up angst, just people struggling to get through this journey we call life.

Rook and Luka meet as young boys when their fathers, who are both doctors, open a practice together. The two are instantly mesmerized by each other and, to their parent’s delight, become steadfast friends. They grow up in a small town where they have a special place they gravitate towards.

Rook loves his town and family with zero desire to ever leave. All he wants are within the community’s borders. Luka has the urge to explore, which becomes amplified when he realizes he loves his best friend. Believing the love can never be returned, Luka leaves to pursue a new career in photography. He ends up practically ghosting Rook for years.

Luka is back because his beloved father is dying. Their relationship was so wonderful, and I understand the guilt Luka had, but in the end, the family remained intact. There are several heart-ripping scenes that are completely believable and memorable. Meet Me in the Blue is a story of two souls that desperately need each other, and their path to this discovery will remain with me for a long time to come. Please keep writing these gems, Ms. Johnson. I highly encourage you to read this heartwarming novel. Happy reading!
