Trope: Bi-awakening, romantic suspense, forbidden love, secret relationship

A passionate, thrilling, and addictive standalone MM romance.

President Brennan Walker captivated me from the moment I walked into his Oval Office.

He’s a mystery I’m determined to unlock. I don’t know what’s hiding inside Brennan’s gaze when he looks my way, or why black lightning keeps crashing between us. He’s a storm at midnight, a dark moon rising, trouble on the horizon.

I’m on the verge of sliding into discoveries and truths that maybe I’m not ready for.

I’ve never been with a man, but now? I’m dreaming about his bleu clair eyes and wondering what it would feel like if his lips touched mine. There’s something here, something between us, like the oxygen we’re breathing is igniting before each inhale.

But he’s the president. I’m his Secret Service agent. He’s the job.

He’s forbidden.

If we cross this line, Brennan could lose everything.

I know I have to walk away.

But I can’t.

How much are we willing to risk?

And how badly will this go up in flames?

At first, I was hesitant because how in the world will I see a presidential figure as a romantic lead? Leave it to Tal Bauer to execute this storyline in a believable and riveting fashion. It was truly a treat to see the leader of the free world portrayed as a lonely man, having his needs awakened by his lead secret service special agent, Reese. When I speak of the president, in my mind, I see the man Brennan, a complex mixture of steely determination and humanitarianism, who is slowly allowing himself to want a connection with someone special. It turns out that Brennan can’t deny who he truly is around Reese.
Reese has never desired another man but his pull toward Brennan is undeniable. As intimidating as the POTUS is, Reese hurls toward him as if there is a magnetic pull. The two together were completely real, and their stolen moments potent.
In the mix of this taboo relationship is a heart-wrenching crime. Murders and confusion are thrown into this heart-pounding and fast-paced action novel. There are two reflections: Then—when the men are forming the relationship, and Now—which details a horrific scene. Nothing will keep Reese from Brennan, no matter the cost.
This adrenaline-pumping mystery was touchingly sweet at times. The author created strong MCs with a touch of vulnerability. I was blown away in the very beginning, and it was hard to put the story down. If you are drawn to action-filled novels with a strong element of true romance, please do not hesitate to grab your copy of Secret Service! Happy reading.

5 Stars!

This is my first Tal Bauer book, and it was a revelation. I have mentioned it before, I don’t like books that jump from past to present, I feel the flow gets interrupted, but in Secret Service, it worked. In the Then portion we get to see how Reese and Brennan meet and fall in love and all the obstacles they have to go through before getting together, and in the Now, we follow Reese and Sheridan as they rush to find out what really happened to Brennan.

I was completely enthralled with the romance between Reese and Brennan, as they were truly made for each other, and at the same time, my heart broke for Sheridan and his love for Reese. I really want Sheridan to find his HEA now.

The kidnapping arc totally blew me away, I never imagined how it would play out and I was totally there for all of it.

Secret Service was fast-paced, interesting, heart-pounding, action-packed, and suspenseful. Definitely one I’ll read again. Super recommendable!

So here’s the thing; I loved this book, but I did have to switch off the part of my brain that said, “There’s no way they would have elected Brennan as President.” Once I’d done that, I happily ensconced myself in this tense, exciting, emotional, and seriously hot thriller.
Reese is responsible for the safety of President Brennan Walker—who is also his secret lover. Told both in the present, where Reese frantically tries to find the kidnapped president, and in the past, where we learn how their relationship developed. What stands out is the absolute devotion Reese holds for Brennan. As obstacles are thrown in his way, and suspects mount up, it’s clear that things are not what they seem. Reese has to work outside the system to find the truth before it’s too late. Seriously exciting.
The style of the story, showing the relationship in flashbacks, really drew me. Seeing their passion between them; how deeply they care really ramps up the tension in the present. The fear of exposure in both parts is palpable.
Pure escapism; this book is a fast-paced thriller centred around a passionate, intense love story—an absolute recommendation from me.
