Beck (Bar 28) Cover

Bar 28, Book 4

Finally, he’s found his perfect man. Will he be able to keep him?

Beck Thompson is out and proud. He has a job he loves and friends he considers his family. Okay, he doesn’t have a boyfriend, but chances are slim he’ll find the man who’ll accept all of him, his past and his tattoos. He’s happy. Sort of.

Until he sees the perfect man…with the same woman hanging on his arm every night. Damn.

Munro Sylvester has put every aspect of his life on hold to make his business a success. And he’s done it. But he’s never been true to himself.

One look at the gorgeous, colourful man changes everything. He knows he has to make the first move, but he may risk losing everything he’s worked so hard for.

Can Beck trust his heart that Munro is the one for him? Is Munro brave enough to come out and fight for their happily ever after?

Beck has a tattooed bartender who has never had any luck with love, a hard-working gym owner who’s never said “I’m gay” out loud, instant attraction, and well-meaning, meddling friends.

It is the fourth book in the BAR 28 series, a MM contemporary series. Each book can be read as a stand-alone, but you’ll enjoy them best by reading them in order. This series is based in the UK.

Excerpt:

“Beck, wait up!” The voice from the office stopped me in my tracks in the corridor. I closed my eyes and calmed myself, then turned back and stepped inside. Jonas, my boss—and my ex-lover—looked me over and frowned. “Are you okay? You’ve seemed distracted lately.” Damn him for knowing me so well.

“Yeah, I’m good. I’ve had a lot on my mind lately, but it’s all sorted now.” Please don’t ask. Please don’t ask.

“Anything I can help with?” He was such a genuine guy, a great man. If only it could’ve worked out for us. He was a protector, a carer, and I didn’t need one of those. I wanted an equal.

“No, like I said, it’s all sorted. I’m good. I promise.” I plastered my brightest smile on my face and turned away, conscious of his eyes still on me.

“You know where I am if you need anything, Beck.” The kindness in his voice made my heart hurt, and I had to blink hard a couple of times to fight back the sting of tears.

“I know. Thank you, Jonas.” I walked to the breakroom, which was empty. I was always early, a habit I’d had my whole life, thanks to my parents. They’d always prided themselves on the fact that they were never late. It was a shame they didn’t pride themselves on loving their son.

It was going to be a busy night, which was exactly what I needed. A night to take my mind off the total fuck-up my life was right now. Not my love life. I hadn’t got that. No, it was my sex life that was fucked up. I must have a sign on my forehead that said ‘SUCKER’ flashing in pink neon lights. I was a sucker for a sad smile and a sob story,

which was why I ended up alone after my so-called date decided to call his ex and, with a gabbled apology, rushed off back to him. I’d spent all damn night trying to cheer him up so that I could get him back to my place, not for him to friend-zone me before he left.

The others were arriving as well. Max had Gus tucked under his arm, and Sawyer sported a hickey or two, courtesy of Devon. Leo was already working and would be leaving after his shift ended to go home to Bruno. Happy couples everywhere.

Fuck. My. Life.

Gus

4 Stars
This is book 1 in the Bar 28 series, which, as the title suggests, centres around the guys working in a bar called Bar 28. While the characters overlap, each story works surprisingly well as a stand-alone and is quite different.
This is a bit of an instalove, but it works as the relationship still has to be worked at. Gus is sweet and definitely a bit of a nerd. He’s concentrating on his studies, so when he has a hot hookup with the older Max, he leaves in the morning. Max is one of my favourite types of characters. Older than Gus, he’s very much “he’s the one” when he sees Gus and spends the book trying not to mess up as he tries to persuade Gus that they are perfect together. He wants only the best for Gus and is sweet, protective, and loving.
It’s a fun, light-hearted read; the angst is low, and the outcome is obvious from the start. However, it’s a really enjoyable read to get there. With likable main characters and a great supporting cast, this is a book and series I definitely recommend.

Sawyer

3.75
This is book two in the Bar 28 series, which, as the title suggests, centres around the guys working in a bar called Bar 28. While the characters overlap, each story works surprisingly well as a stand-alone and is quite different.
We met Sawyer in book one, but this story sets the premise up for us, so you don’t have to read book one. Sawyer’s ex holds his engagement party at the bar, and Sawyer is forced to work through it. What looks like it will be a nightmare evening is turned around by the presence of Devon at the bar. A hot night turns into the Dom/Daddy relationship that Sawyer has dreamed of. Like book one, the connection is fast and hot. The angst comes from the fact that Devon is the brother of Sawyer’s ex and the fact that he is new to the role of being a Dom. It’s obvious he’s a natural, but he messes up along the way.
I enjoyed the book, perhaps not quite as much as book one. It’s a little bit messy at the start with the two voices not standing out clearly, but this does settle down.  Sawyer is a really sweet character, and you can’t help liking him. Devon obviously adores him from the start, and it’s clear he’s a natural in his new role. They fit.
I definitely recommend this if you’re looking for fast, hot, and heavy. It’s strong on the romance, these two are together quickly, and there’s nothing sweeter than a Dom/Daddy looking after his boy.

Leo

4 Stars
This is book three in the Bar 28 series, which, as the title suggests, centres around the guys working in a bar called Bar 28. While the characters overlap, each story works surprisingly well as a stand-alone and is quite different.
This is my favourite story so far in the series. I love the combination of a famous guy just looking for the one and the hurt guy who thinks he’s too damaged for the love and the fact they’ve already connected but don’t even realise it. Their relationship felt natural, even though Leo does some self-sabotaging. Leo’s issues are handled well, and while there’s still the instant connection that is common to all the books, there is slightly more angst. The abuse is well handled, and Bruno is sweet and protective of Leo while he works through his difficulties. The reveal of their connection is also fun, the reader knowing it pretty quickly but them taking a while to figure it out.
A definite recommendation from me, especially if you like a story where the couple gets together quickly, and then you can see their story unfold. Sweet, hot, and emotional.

Beck

4 Stars
This is the last book in the Bar 28 series, which, as the title suggests, centres around the guys working in a bar called Bar 28. While the characters overlap, each story works surprisingly well as a stand-alone and is quite different.
We’ve reached Beck’s story. He’s been hanging about the background and tantalising us. He’s tattooed, out and proud, and doesn’t really believe there’s anyone for him. There is one guy who attracts his attention, but he’s clearly straight with the girl hanging on his arms. The dual POV lets the reader know that Munro is definitely not straight and is definitely interested. The problem is he’s not out, and his life is complicated as he runs a chain of gyms and is a social media influencer for this.
It’s obvious from the start that the chemistry is there, and when Beck does let Munro in, they are certainly hot together. It’s not easy for Beck to trust or Munro to be open, and this does cause some hiccups along the way. Munro is particularly naive with his slightly stalkerish friend, Lucie. This, however, follows the style of previous, pretty insta love, and then the book is the journey to making it work. Munro is very brave in how he commits to the relationship and his coming out. He’s very open with Beck once he admits to being in the closet, which is what Beck needs, even if he does go on to mess up a couple of times. These books are very much about found family, and the guys at Bar 28 are really there for Beck. If you’ve read the earlier books, it’s great to see how the guys are doing.
A sexy, sweet love story that’s well worth the read, especially if you like a book where the couple spends a lot of time together and really are the story’s focus.
