They’re setting fire to the sheets, but a romance between an out and proud hockey star and a reformed playboy prince could end up burning them both.
Marquis Miller might be one of the NHL’s best players, single, wealthy, and open about his sexuality, but he knows his future lies in taking over the reins of the family’s multimillion-dollar company after retirement. Jumping on the family jet, he heads to Europe, tasked with schmoozing a prince into accepting his company’s bid on a significant castle renovation. Assuming he’d encounter a dusty old monarch well into his dotage, Marquis is stunned to find out that Kaleb is a young, sophisticated, beautiful man with an impressive work ethic, to-die-for eyes, and a certain flair that captures Marquis’s attention.
Dragging the royal palace into the twenty-first century is one battle after another for the king’s youngest son. Juggling renovations, his royal duties, and attempting to reverse his former playboy prince reputation is impossible when everyone keeps dumping problems in his lap. His chaotic life takes yet another turn when an American hockey player arrives at the castle to discuss a renovation project. Marquis is the antithesis of Kaleb’s newly minted, responsible outlook on life, a jock, a player, willing to take chances. Although the forbidden sex is hot, Kaleb is not ready to turn on his family responsibilities for a pretty smile and a smart mouth.
Family is everything and romance will always come in second, until they open their hearts to love.
Excerpt
The sizzle that sparked between us during the lengthy handshake—no, that was no handshake; that was a hand seduction—was still lighting up my nervous system.
“You were expecting me, I believe. Regarding your plumbing refit,” I said again.
“Oh, yes. I’m sorry. It’s been a day.” He shook his head briefly, and I wondered what could be bad in a prince’s day. Certainly, with all this privilege, he had to have things kind of easy. He probably had an official worrier who did all the worrying for him—probably an under-worrier as well.
“I feel you there. My ass is so jet lagged I had to get your man, Harald, to help me carry my backside up into the castle along with my bags.” He snorted in amusement. Good. I like a man with a sense of humor. Life was too short to spend it frowning.
“I hope Harald proved to be an adequate ass carrier?”
I chuckled. Nice. Wit as well as devastatingly good looks. Also, he smelled lush and erotic. Dark spices wafted off his skin.
“He carried my ass with aplomb. Then, he helped me through security, which damn, was some intense stuff. Then, sat me down in this orangery, but I have to confess, Your Highness, I’ve not seen one single orange.” I waved my hand at the foliage filling the sunroom.
“Oh, are you looking for an orange? We can ring for Harald to fetch you some citrus to snack on. I’m afraid we eat rather late here so—”
“Sure, I’ll take an orange. There’s always the concern of scurvy setting in after an overseas crossing.” I winked and got a smile brighter than the sun warming the glass-walled room.

4.5 Stars
I’ll hold my hand up and admit that Royal romances are not my favourite trope so it shows how good these authors are that I gave it a 4.5. It takes a lot to stop the sceptic in my head shouting ‘that wouldn’t happen’, which I admit is a bit silly as many romances are fantasy escapism.
I adore this series and have been waiting for Marquis’s story; he’s been hovering in the background and intrigued me. The mix of hockey player/family business meant that we were going to get something a little different, not just an on-the-ice story. Most of the story takes place in Europe, at Kaleb’s palace. The attraction between the two is pretty instant. There’s a lot more resistance from Kaleb, as duty holds him back but Marquis is hard to resist. There’s a real connection between the two and it’s clear to us even if they pretend otherwise, that this is more than a fling while Marquis is there.
The pair are supported by a great cast of characters. It almost felt like we were missing other books as Kaleb’s brothers and sisters all have messy romances of their own.
This, as with all these authors’ books, is a wonderful romance full of banter, fun, sweet loving, and a warm, satisfying happy ever after. A definite recommendation from me which is pretty impressive from a Royal romance sceptic.
