M/M romance

Slow burn, slight age-gap, student/professor, single dad, second chance, bi-awakening, hurt/comfort, HEA

I never meant for any of this to happen, to fall for you. It doesn’t matter that we’re both adults, or how much we want this to work. The college policy is clear. I can’t see a way around this without one of us getting hurt. If I would’ve known who you were when we met online, I would have never pursued a relationship. I’m new to all of this, and besides my daughter, getting to know you has been the best thing to ever happen to me. But I can’t make you hide again. I won’t. It’s not fair to either of us.

Deepest regrets,

Dear Mr. Brody,

You’re right, we are adults. I’m twenty-four years old, and I think I can decide for myself what’s best for me. If this is about you losing your job, I’ll walk away. But if this is you trying to protect me, then you’re an idiot. I want you. I care about you. My past isn’t an issue. What we’re doing… it isn’t the same thing. If we have to hide, so be it. I’m not ready to let you go.

Your Lost Boy,

5+ Stars
I eagerly awaited book 3, in the For Him Series by A. M. Johnson. After reading Not So Sincerely Yours, I was amazed at this author’s talent. Happily, her latest book was as incredible as I was hoping it would be. The characters in this novel are so authentic and relatable. She created two strong MCs that have such a searing, soul-crushing, and deep connection that continued to grow. Their feelings are artistically expressed as both men have creative natures. I feel this could work as a standalone but reading the first two books would most definitely add to the experience.
The two men, at first glance, appear worlds apart but as the words flowed, this reader felt they were destined to be together. Parker is a 24-year-old who has finished the military and is determined to earn his degree. He takes a writing course, and excels with his innovative prose that captures his professor’s eye. Leaving the military, for Parker, was a huge relief, as he felt he had to deny his true self for such a long time.
Donovan is a literary agent, freshly divorced with a 10-year-old, and trying to find something that belongs solely to him. Much to the consternation of his boss Anders, he takes on a part-time teaching job. His work at the literary agency is successful but he took it on because he found himself married young with a baby, and it was the responsible thing to do. This teaching gig is allowing Donovan to be himself by doing something he truly loves. He is also embracing his bisexual side that he suppressed for years.
I loved both MCs, but man, did Parker steal my heart. He seemed light-years older in wisdom than his real age. He was sweet, light, and had such an expressive gift with his words. The professor and student have a molten attraction that starts out in a rather unconventional way. A series of anonymous texts lead to both men opening up to each other before realizing their true identities. The feelings were so genuine, you could feel their attraction pulsating on the pages. Ethically this relationship can’t be, but their hearts don’t want to hear this. I ached for Parker and Donovan as they faced some challenging choices.
This book was an amazing addition to the series and they keep getting better. I will reread this brilliant story, and please do yourself a giant favor and enter the romantic world Ms. Johnson has flawlessly created. You will also find yourself enjoying some annoying but well-meaning family members, a sassy 10-year-old, and overly dramatic best friend—drama queens! Happy reading!

This is Book 3 of the For Him series and I just loved it! Loved it! The books are linked by the style as they all involve conversations by some form of media (text, email, app) as part of the plot. The characters are linked to the previous books but this one, out of the three, works best as a stand-alone. Please read the first two though, they are unmissable.
This one is about Donovan, who works in the literary agency from the earlier books, and Parker, an older student, having left the army. Donovan is recently divorced and now considering exploring his attraction to men. Parker, however, is out of bounds as he meets him when he takes on a part-time job as a professor. Instead, he explores his attraction through a dating app. We, of course, know who he is talking to.
I adored these two. They are sweet, funny, sexy, emotional, just about perfect together. This is not a rush to an end game, rather a slow, emotional build to a perfect happy ever after. Parker is just wonderful; he gently leads Donovan on a journey of exploration. These are great characters, together they are so much more.
Cannot recommend this story strongly enough. Love, love, love it.

4.5 Stars

Dear Mr. Brody was a really enjoyable read and fits perfectly among this fantastic series of overlapping standalones. With good characters, a sweet romance, and smooth, beautiful writing, this book is yet another reason why this author has quickly moved to the top of my must-read list.

Teacher-student romance isn’t my favorite trope because of the inherent power dynamic. However, collegiate romances like Dear Mr. Brody make it less of a personal issue and I genuinely enjoyed the set-up and relaxed, trusting nature of Van and Parker’s romance. Both characters are likable and I loved that we get a log of backstory without it overshadowing their current story and relationship. The steady build between these men is perfect for a bi-awakening/out-for-you romance. On top of that, there is so much sensuality and chemistry between Parker and Van that I couldn’t help but swoon at times.

I find it a special treat when a romance features a writer’s character because it feels as though the author has the opportunity to really unfurl the power of language and channel their talent through their character. This was definitely true in Dear Mr. Brody, with Parker delivering some fantastic lines demonstrating just how beautiful words can be and how much they can make you feel. This title and the entire For Him series are an easy recommendation for those looking for truly epic romances.
