Acting on the attraction to his best friend’s brother has always been off the table for Xander until a passionate hookup with Mason at a beach resort begins a love affair that burns long after summer ends.
Mason specializes in assisting same-sex couples on their journey to becoming parents and fighting every rule that blocks his way in the stuck-in-the-past agency that hired him. Living in his brother’s pool house is rent-free, and every cent he earns he saves for his dream—that one day he’d have his own company helping others. The downside is that he has to see his annoying brother every day, the upside is that his brother’s teammates from the Boston Rebels make regular visits. The eye candy that passes Mason’s window is almost enough to make him consider dating a hockey player, but not just any player though. Ever since Xander—his brother’s childhood friend—came out as gay at a press conference, Mason’s puppy love has turned into a burning attraction he can no longer ignore.
Hockey has been one of Xander’s main focuses since he was old enough to balance on skates. Well, hockey and Mason Kingsley, but Mason was always unattainable. Now that he’s about to see thirty candles on his birthday cake and is no longer hiding the fact he’s gay, he’s ready to find a soul mate to make his life complete. A summer vacation is just what he needs to have time to think, but when the Boston Rebels arriving in paradise with Mason in tow, thinking is the last thing he needs. One torrid night under a balmy moon and rules about not messing with his best friend’s brother vanish on a warm, tropical breeze.
Summer romances don’t generally last past Labor Day, but with the new season about to begin Xander and Mason are going to have to face the world and decide if their love is real enough to withstand everything.
The Boston Rebels were established in the roaring twenties as one of the Original Six teams in the fledgling new professional hockey league. Success came to them somewhat quickly as they won the championship in nineteen thirty-two by beating New York to become the first American team to bring home the cup.
From the first out NHL captain, to the bright young star making his mark, the defenseman fighting addiction and finding out he’s a dad, to the goalie being stalked by a killer, meet a brand new team of hockey players from the authors of bestselling MM Hockey Romance’, RJ Scott & VL Locey.

When our parents died, Eli had become my guardian at nineteen, me only fifteen, a pseudo parent who didn’t know how to back off. He fussed and corralled and took me all over the country with him until I was old enough to go to college and then get a job.
Not that I’d moved far from him given I lived in Eli’s pool house free of charge and had no college loans to pay off. Being the little brother of a millionaire pro skater had its pluses. I would pay him back every cent one day, but it wasn’t happening now. In contrast to Becca’s fading jersey, I wore the newest design I could get my hands on because hey, I got perks, and Eli had a ton of them just sitting in his office. The only shitty thing was that it also had some minuses.
Like the fact I was hopelessly in love with my brother’s best friend—Boston’s world-class pushy irritatingly perfect D-Man, Xander freaking Holden.

Yay, a new Hockey series from RJ Scott and VL Locey! That makes it a must-have from the get-go. These authors are one of my go-to for hockey romances.
The story is loosely connected to the other series, with some character overlap. However, I do think it works as a stand-alone, as the one area of plot, a past trauma for one of the characters, is explained.
So I loved Mason and Xander—an absolutely adorable, sexy couple. This is a story about finally getting what you want. Mason has never believed having Xander was a possibility; after all, he’s straight and his big brother’s best friend. Things change, though, when Xander is forced out of the closet. Xander knows what he’s always wanted. Now that it’s a possibility, he just needs the courage to go for it.
It doesn’t matter that the story isn’t complex or full of angst. This is about the MCs, their banter, the chemistry, their journey to a HEA. It also sets up future stories in the series. Stories that I can’t wait to read.
Loved it from start to finish. If you’ve not read the earlier series, you’ve missed a treat. Go back and read them; you won’t regret it. If you have, you’ll be happy to know it’s like going back to your happy place—perfect.

Top Shelf was an outstanding book. This is the first book I have read of R.J. Scott and V.L. Locey’s. It was well written with a storyline that was easy to follow. It was a very easy read and I loved everything about it.
Mason has had feelings for Xander for as long as he can remember. I felt like they were absolutely made for each other. The way they fall for each other is exciting and how true love should be. They had great chemistry together. I enjoyed watching their love grow and how they helped others.
I would recommend this book and can’t wait to read more by these authors.

In this story, we meet Mason and Xander. It’s a hockey story about two best friends that play for Detroit’s NHL team. It’s also a story about two brothers, Mason and Eli, and two best friends Xander and Eli. They grew up together, and Mason and Xander have fallen for each other. To read about Mason’s attention attempts was quite fun. I’ll probably never look at a flamingo again without smiling. Xander is turning 30, and a few of the hockey guys go with them to Aruba for his big birthday. Some changes are coming to the team. Some new adventures are coming to Mason’s life with his best friend, Becca. This story had a lot going on. But it was never too much. There was a little humor, fun, and some heat tucked in there as well.
I do like the story. There wasn’t much drama with it, and the angst was pretty low. If you’re looking for an easy, feel-great, relaxing read, I can’t recommend this book enough.
I’m giving the book a 4.25, but I think this is more of a hang-up with me. The book is well written. I like a bit more angst and drama in stories. So really, I think the hang-up here is all me. I do like this couple, as well as all of the side characters. Will I read another book by these two authors? Absolutely! If anyone asked me if I would recommend this book, I’d reply with…’without a doubt’.
