The hunters become the hunted when the witch knows they’re coming to get him, and has deadly plans of his own.

One hundred years ago, a sheriff’s posse killed dark warlock Rhyfel Gremory, but his witch-disciples escaped, and their magic made them nearly immortal. To keep their power, each year one of the witch-disciples kills a descendant of one of the men in the posse, a 12-year cycle that has cost dozens of lives, including that of Seth Tanner’s brother, Jesse.

Seth rescued Evan Malone from one of the witches, and they’ve fallen in love despite the danger and chaos, going on the road to complete the quest and bring an end to the ritual murders. Their relationship is new, their emotions are raw, and the danger is real. It’s a challenge to find their way as a couple while they’re on the road together in the close quarters of Seth’s RV, training in magic and combat skills to fight off a supernatural killer.

Their quest to stop a century-long killing spree takes them to a small town in the Blue Ridge Mountains. They’re ahead of the sacrifice cycle, with plans to stop the murders and kill the dark witch. Only this time, the hunters become the hunted when the witch knows they’re coming to get him, and has deadly plans of his own.

Audio: Five Stars

Narrator: Mr. Kale Williams

I jumped on this audio because it contained two of my favorite things, an amazing paranormal from Morgan Brice and narration from Mr. Williams. What a dynamic combination! I loved Kale’s melodic tone, and he did a masterful job in bringing this thrilling, roller coaster of novel to life! The variety of different voices was impressive. Seth and Evan have such chemistry, and this creative audio highlighted their solid relationship. The portrayal of the evil disciple had a wicked and creepy edge which captivated me. I found this production did such an amazing job bringing the complex world of good and evil to life. I highly recommend this audiobook that you might want to listen to with the lights on.

Story-line: This is a heart-pounding paranormal tale, that would be helpful if you visited the Witchbane series in order, however it can still work as a stand-alone. Seth Tanner is on a dangerous mission. Years ago, his brother Jesse was mistaken for him and murdered during a ritual sacrifice from supernatural beings. Since that horrific day, Seth is hellbent on avenging his sibling’s death and preventing further killings by destroying the evil forces. Along with Evan Malone, his significant other, they are heading south for another fight to stop the witch disciples from gathering power from their dark force, the long-dead warlock Gremory. This dark warlock cursed the 12 men that made up the sheriff’s posse that killed him. Every year, one of the witch disciples goes after a descendant from the posse to murder him and feed off that power to give them immortality. This 12-year cycle has caused multiple deaths of innocent men. Evan was supposed to be killed but was saved by Seth. Now they are romantically linked and Evan is helping Seth go after the remaining witches to destroy them.

This story has them teaming up with seasoned monster hunters Milo and Toby. I enjoyed the dynamics between the cranky and fearless older men. It is a hard life and it has aged them quickly. Seth and Evan are developing familial ties with an eclectic group of men that challenge the creatures from our nightmares. Ms. Morgan’s series is innovative and I was quickly absorbed in the story from the first chapter. Even though the central theme is the same, stopping the eternal serial killers, each novel remains fresh. I loved how much Evan has changed from a timid and scared young man into someone willing to give up his life to help his boyfriend Seth in their grisly quest.
