When Colorado Penn finds an unexpected package on his front step, his life will be changed forever.
Colorado Penn is living the dream. Starting goalie for the Arizona Raptors when in season, lead singer for a hard rock band when summer rolls around. He’s the quintessential free spirit who’s making sure he enjoys all the carnal blessings of his athleticism, and gritty singing voice. Now the Raptors are moving into their first playoff appearance in years, but the arrival of an unexpected package means that hockey may have to take a backseat to something way more important. Instead of the usual undergarments from adoring fans, he finds a newborn baby with a small note tucked under her carrier, naming him as the father. He refuses to give up his daughter and is determined to be the kind of father he’d dreamed of having. But to keep Madeline, he’ll need help, and he’ll need it fast. Enter handsome emergency manny, Joseph. They may be opposites, but Colorado starts to see that Joseph’s stable, calm influence makes his chaotic lifestyle choices seem less appealing. There’s something about the man that soothes not only his infant daughter but also the wild child inside Colorado.
Joseph is one year away from getting his degree in planetary science, working cover shifts at the planetarium, and pulling in income with short term manny gigs. Stars collide as he provides emergency childcare for the wild man of hockey, a man who moves so fast through life that he doesn’t know how to stop. Homeless, and caring for his niece, Emma, fate brings Joseph into Colorado and baby Madeline’s life. Madeline is a sweetheart, and Colorado is trying his hardest to make the best decision for his baby girl. He offers his home and an indecent salary, to keep Joseph in his life until summer’s end. Colorado brings mysticism and metal to Joseph’s sanctuary of science, but somehow Joseph needs to tame this shooting star and create a family. Nothing in the contract said Joseph had to fall in love to make that happen, but when it’s time for him to leave, will the void in his heart ever heal, or will it remain as cold as space itself?
~ * ~ Jo‘s Review ~ * ~
So I try to be a well-behaved reviewer and read the arcs I’m sent in the order they are due to be reviewed. That way I don’t end up with a whole load needing to be read quickly, just because a few of my favourite authors have new books come out.
Massive failure, huge, total.
The day this popped up on my kindle, I was on this baby like a bitch in heat. Sorry, too graphic? If you’re a fan of this series, you’ll understand what I mean. If not …what planet are you living on. Go read them all, I say!!! Go, go!
I love the Raptors. When the Harrisburg Railers series (please tell me you’ve read those) finished, I was heartbroken…until we got the spin-off series, Owatonna U Hockey…and then we got the Arizona raptors. Don’t worry, amazingly, you can read each individually as though the characters overlap, the stories don’t spoil if not read in order. It’s just once you’ve read one, the guys are so great, you’ll want to go back and read all the stories.
These authors do Hockey like no other pair. You don’t just get alpha jocks (although you do get those) you get a whole range of characters; all of whom are in some way emotional, funny, caring, and oh so sexy. I’ve wanted to read Colorado’s book for a while. He’s been the wild boy of the team but with an absolute heart of gold. You knew he was going to get himself in a mess (I mean oh, an Emu) but he is absolutely beautiful, melt your ovaries when a baby turns up on his doorstep. Forget the rock side, this is full-on protective daddy mode. He needs child care so in walks Joseph. Joesph is just as gorgeous, nerdy and family protective, their first meeting is brilliantly funny.
This story is seriously brilliant. It’s a lovely slow build as the two come to terms with their new loves and their attraction to each other. I loved though how their focus was always Madeleine, even before their relationship started.
This is seriously brilliant… oh, I’ve said that. You get the picture. Buy it. Buy them all. Bask in the brilliance that is the Raptors (and the Railers and Owatonnas)

Sports ✔️ Musician ✔️ Single Father ✔️ Manny ✔️
This book has a lot of my favorite elements all in this sweet, fun story. How could I pass it up? Spoiler alert: I couldn’t.
I am not sure which main character I liked more. Both men were solid individuals with big hearts. Looking at Colorado, on paper, you wouldn’t think he’d be like that, but that’s why you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. Joseph comes into Colorado’s life when he’s hired to be the temporary manny for Colorado’s surprise baby. Colorado changed his priorities when he discovered he was a father, but with his schedule he needs Joe’s help taking care of Maddie, his daughter. Over time, he discovers he may need him in other ways.
This story was well written and full of heart. The characters were well developed and likable. I enjoyed watching Colorado and Joe’s relationship grow. There were so many moments I found myself with a case of the goofy grins. Books like this just feel like a big hug after a long day, and make my heart smile. Scott & Locey make a great writing team.
Being book five in a series usually finds itself with big shoes to fill. This book delivered. It was fun capturing glimpses of familiar faces and getting to know new ones. This was an enjoyable story, and I definitely recommend it.
