FACE OFFS & CHEAP SHOTS by Eden Finley & Saxon James

Release Date: October 5, 2020

Cover Design: Story Styling Cover Designs

Genre: M/M College Sports Romance

For the last three years, I’ve lived and breathed hockey with one goal: team captain.
There’s only one thing standing in my way. TJ Beckett.
Beck is irresponsible and immature, and I’ve hated him since the moment we met freshman year.
Yet, the coaches see something in him I obviously can’t, and they refuse to choose between us. The captain spot is going to a team vote, and the team thinks that what we need are a bunch of challenges to prove our worth. Challenges that have nothing to do with hockey. Challenges that are throwing me and Beck together.
And he’s still as infuriating as ever.

I have no idea why Christopher Jacobs hates me, and I can’t say I care. I like pushing his buttons, but the guy needs to loosen up. I’m going to win these stupid challenges easily and spend my senior year as hockey king on this campus. Tormenting Jacobs at the same time will just be a bonus.
Even if I’m getting confusing feelings toward him, I won’t let it hold me back.
When it comes to competing, I’m all in, and nothing will get between me and the W.

5 Stars!!!

Face Offs & Cheap Shots is the second book in the CU Hockey series by Eden Finley and Saxon James, and it could technically be read as a standalone, but book 1 is really good and Grant and Zach are featured here, too, so you don’t want to miss out.

Wow, just wow! This book was amazing! It’s enemies-to-lovers (kinda), well, Jacobs hates Beck, who has had everything handed to him, but he’s not aware that Beck feels the noose around his neck getting tighter and tighter as graduation comes closer and with it, having to work at his father’s corporation and forgetting all about hockey. Now, Jacobs and Beck are up to be their team’s new captain and their teammates will decide who it would be. A challenge of gay chicken brings forth an attraction that neither of them had realized existed—having thought they were straight before— and suddenly, they can’t keep their hands off each other. But Beck’s future is practically set in stone and this is just sex for the two of them, or is it?

I loved Jacobs and Beck, both together and individually. They were so much fun from the start. Even when they were fighting or in Beck’s case, riling Jacobs up, the sparks practically jumped off the page, and damn, when they gave in to their attraction and started hooking up, I felt like my Kindle was about to catch on fire! *fans self and my poor, poor Kindle*

The progression from enemies to friends to lovers and their sexual awakening was so natural, so well done and believable and I was totally rooting for them to find a way to not only stay together but find a way to free Beck from the weight of his father’s expectations.

I loved Baby, Beck’s sister, and Jacobs’s family. I was on the fence about Beck’s parents, but they, or rather, his father, surprised me in the end. And of course, it was great catching up with Grant, Zach, and Seth, and I hope this isn’t the last we’ve seen of Cohen, one of the guys’ teammates.

While I enjoyed the first book in the series, this one totally blew my mind. It was such a fantastic read, Beck and Jacobs’s story was captivating, hot and funny and unputdownable. Eden Finley and Saxon James are definitely a force to be reckoned with writing together and I can’t wait to read what else they have in store for us!

5 Stars & 10 🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒

Oh. Wow. Power Plays & Straight A’s was an amazing book, and I really, really loved it. Zach and Foster were awesome. That said, book 2 blew it out of the water, in my humble, yet accurate, opinion. This book is everything I could have ever wanted from my favorite mash-up of tropes: enemies to lovers + sexual awakening/first time. Yes. Please.

Man these boys haated each other. Fiery passion. To the nth degree. Well, Jacobs hated Beck, and Beck loved to egg it on. Well, maybe they don’t? Their egos and competitive side amp it up tenfold, though, and I LOVED it. With the captain position being in the hands of a team of hockey players, did we ever really think it would be just a simple vote? Ummmm, the answer is no. They’re college-aged hockey players. Heck no, is more appropriate. Want it? Win it. Let the challenges begin. Everything goes as planned until Gay Chicken. Then it goes sideways, behind the scenes, of course. When they have yet another confrontation, in private, something snaps, and these boys can’t fight it anymore.

I loved Jacobs and Beck. They were beautifully written and completely stole my heart. They’re like the perfect cookie: kinda hard on the outside, yet soft on the inside. They brought out the worst and best in each other. Even when behaving like total jerks to each other, they were both very likable characters. I enjoyed the side characters a lot. I have a sneaky suspicion we aren’t finished with Cohen. I have my perfect match for him, and I really, really want Saxon and Eden to feel the same way, but I’m also very aware that they’ve never let me down with their matchups. So…I know I will love it no matter who it is. (Please be who I want, please be who I want)

This story had all the snark, comradery, witty banter, goofball antics, and heartfelt moments that we’ve come to love and expect from these authors. I haven’t come across a book, written by them, that hasn’t left me with a big, stupid grin on my face when it ends. I cannot wait to see what they have in store for us, together and individually.

5 Stars

I think I actually liked this book more than I did book One. I loved the banter between Jacobs and Beck, they had me laughing so much.

Jacobs was so grumpy and I just loved him. I loved his family, too, they were awesome. Beck was sexy and snarky. I loved the way he would purposely annoy Jacobs. They had so much chemistry!

Jacobs and Beck slowly realized that even though they were from two completely different worlds, they weren’t all that different where it really counts on the inside. Each man was determined and competitive but as they were slowly drawn together, I knew that they would become one of my favorite couples.

I can’t wait to see if there’s a book three and if so I need to know who it’s about!
