Audiobook Review Tour ~ What Lies Beneath by R.J. Scott (Giveaway)

Length: 5hrs 44 mins
Narrated By: Sean Crisden
Publisher: Tantor Media

In the hottest summer on record, Iron Lake reservoir is emptying, revealing secrets that were intended to stay hidden beneath the water.

Best-selling horror writer Chris Lassiter struggles for inspiration and he’s close to never writing again. His life has become an endless loop of nothing but empty pages, personal appearances, and a marketing machine that is systematically destroying his muse. In a desperate attempt to force Chris to complete unfinished manuscripts his agent buys a remote cabin. All Chris has to do is hide away and write, but he’s lost his muse, and not even he can make stories appear from thin air.

Sawyer Wiseman left town for Chicago, chasing the excitement and potential of being a big city cop, rising the ranks, and making his mark. A case gone horribly wrong draws him back to Lancaster Falls. Working for the tiny police department in the town he’d been running from, digging into cold cases and police corruption, he spends his day’s healing, and his nights hoping the nightmares of his last case leave him alone.

What Lies Beneath is an intriguing story that managed to suck me in from the very beginning. While it moved at a somewhat slow pace, it managed to give me the opportunity to really get to know both the town and the characters and start a connection to our MC’s. Between Chris, the author struggling to once again find his muse while living in a remote cabin, and Sawyer, the cop who’s returned home back to heal and to a quieter life out of the big city, murders and scandals, corrupt politicians and the like, there is quite a bit to make this story hard to put down.
If only we didn’t have to wait for book two and three to get all of our questions answered. I’m too impatient for that kind of thing, so of course, I was left feeling a bit peeved. However, I will be continuing with the series because I think book one did a great job enticing me to this verse. I can’t not know how it all works out.
The writing was great, the characters well done and I enjoyed Sean Crisden’s narration. Sean is one of the voices who can do a little bit of everything and I’ve come to expect good things from him.
