Author: TJ Nichols
Release Date: October 11, 2019
Category: Paranormal Romance
To save his soul, he’ll have to fix his one regret—the love that got away.
The summer between the end of school and the start of what came next was full of sun, surf, and sex. For Will McLeod, that meant Tom, his first male lover. He knew the romance had an expiration date and would end when Tom joined the Army, but that didn’t stop Will from falling in love.
Tired of being looked down upon for being poor, Will became a lawyer—but not just any lawyer. He litigates for the gods as they gamble with the lives of those desperate enough to make deals. His job is to make sure they don’t slip free. He has more money than he knows what to do with, but he’s fast running out of soul.
Twenty-five years haven’t dimmed the candle Will holds for Tom, and when they meet again, he has a chance to put things right. Back then, Tom wasn’t ready to fight for them. Now the decorated soldier is willing to get his hands dirty, but will he be a match for the forces trying to keep them apart?
Will became a lawyer for the gods, but he’s tired and disillusioned. It pays more than he’ll ever spend, but he’s losing his soul piece by piece. His only way out is to fix his one regret, but he’s never been able to find Tom. When Lucifer suggests that Will attend his high school reunion, he goes reluctantly. When Tom shows up to the reunion and the two try to reconnect, things get real interesting. Tom can’t believe what he’s seeing, and Will is even more convinced that he will never get away from his job.
I felt for Will. He ended up in a situation where he never could have anticipated the cost to himself. He’s resigned himself to enjoying the time he has with Tom and then dealing with being stuck in his job permanently. I can’t imagine how the events of their reunion felt to Tom when things started going sideways. However, I loved how determined Tom was to protect and help Will even after all the years they had been apart. I liked that even though they were trying to break Will’s contract, they still talked about what happened between them and cleared the air. I liked that they talked about their feelings and made sure that they wanted to move forward together as a couple.
I really enjoyed this one. I don’t want to spoil too much of the story because the world-building was very unique and added a lot to the story. I would love to see another book set in this world, just to see more of the craziness and antics of all the parties involved.
